A handyman quote usually covers a list of small jobs, so the hard part is making each one clear without writing an essay. Use the free handyman quote template below, which starts with a typical job list, then read the notes on minimum charges, hourly versus per-task pricing, materials, and the work a handyman shouldn’t quote for without the right licence.

Send it as a real quote your customer accepts online
In Karya Falak a quote goes out as a link. Your customer picks any options and accepts on their phone, and the job moves to Booked.
Customers often call with a list: a sticking door, holes in the plaster, a gate that won’t latch, shelves to hang. Give each its own line with a short description and a price, rather than one lump sum. The customer can see the cost of each item, drop the ones they don’t want, and nobody argues later about whether the shelves were included.
Minimum charges and hourly rates
Most handymen set a minimum charge that covers travel and the first hour or so on site. Put it on the quote as its own line and say what it includes. For work you can’t size easily, quote an hourly rate with an estimate of the hours, and say you will check with the customer before going much over. Under the Australian Consumer Law an estimate must be a careful one.
Materials: yours or theirs
Say who buys the materials. If you supply them, show them on their own line, either priced up front or at cost plus a stated markup with receipts on request. If the customer supplies them, such as a flat-pack wardrobe or their own tiles, say your workmanship warranty doesn’t cover faults in their materials.
Know where your licence stops
Electrical, plumbing and gas work must be done by licensed trades, and most states require a building licence once a job passes a certain value or involves structural work. The limits differ by state, so check with your regulator before quoting a larger renovation. Write on the quote anything you are leaving to a licensed trade, so the customer knows to book one.
Deposits and GST
Small jobs rarely need a deposit. For a bigger one with materials to buy, a small deposit is reasonable; consumer regulators suggest no more than 10%. If you aren’t registered for GST, don’t add any, and invoice with an "Invoice" rather than a "Tax invoice". If you are, show homeowners the GST-inclusive total. GST for tradies explains the threshold.
Quote the list, let the customer choose
In Karya Falak each job on the list can be an optional line the customer ticks or unticks on their phone, and the total changes as they go. Common tasks live in your price book, so a quote takes a minute. See software for handymen. Rules checked 30 October 2026 against ato.gov.au, business.gov.au, ACCC and state regulator guidance. General information only, not tax or legal advice. Ask your accountant, BAS agent or state regulator about your own situation.
Questions
Should I charge by the hour or by the job?
By the job when you can size it, so the customer knows the price. By the hour, with an estimate, when you can’t see the problem until you start.
Can I add jobs on the day?
Yes, if the customer agrees before you do them. Add them to a revised quote, or confirm in writing, so the invoice matches what was agreed.
Do I need to put my ABN on a quote?
Regulators recommend it. It also needs to be on your invoice, or a business customer may have to withhold 47% of the payment.
