Electrician quote template

An electrical quote has to be clear about three things customers rarely understand: what is being installed, what compliance work comes with it, and what is not included, such as patching and painting after you cut in. Use the free electrician quote template below, which starts with example lines for a switchboard upgrade, then read the notes on fault finding, certificates, exclusions and deposits.

What to put on an electrical quote

  • Your business name, ABN and electrical contractor licence number.
  • Each item installed, with quantities: circuit breakers, safety switches, power points, lights, smoke alarms, an EV charger.
  • Brand and model where it matters to the customer, such as the charger or the downlights.
  • Labour as a fixed price for defined work, or hours for anything open-ended.
  • The electrical safety certificate your state requires, and that you will lodge it.
  • Call-out, after-hours and public holiday rates.
  • A valid-until date, because cable and switchgear prices move.

Say what isn’t included

Most electrical disputes are about what happened around the work. Spell out the exclusions:

  • Patching, plastering and painting after you cut in or move fittings.
  • Upgrades the supply authority or network may require once they inspect.
  • Removal of an old meter board that may contain asbestos, and who handles it.
  • Faults found in existing wiring, which you will price separately before fixing.

Fault finding: price the time, not the outcome

You can’t quote a fixed price to find an intermittent fault. Quote a first block of fault-finding time as a fixed line, then give the repair as an estimate or a revised quote once you know what it is. Under the Australian Consumer Law an estimate must be a careful one, and you need the customer’s agreement before going past it. See quote vs estimate.

Give options the customer can choose between

Customers often want to see choices: standard or smart switches, a basic or a load-managed EV charger, safety switches on every circuit or just the required ones. Put them on one quote as optional lines. In Karya Falak the customer ticks what they want on their phone, the total changes as they choose, and you get back the exact version they accepted.

Deposits and warranties

A deposit to cover an EV charger, a switchboard or special-order fittings is reasonable. Keep it small for ordinary jobs; consumer regulators tell consumers not to pay more than 10% up front. On larger renovation work some states cap deposits by law, and the general quote template lists the limits we checked.

Separate the product warranty from your workmanship warranty, and say how long yours runs. The consumer guarantees apply whatever you write.

Turn it into a quote the customer signs

In Karya Falak your common jobs, such as a switchboard upgrade or smoke alarm package, become quote templates with your logo and a cover photo. Kits from your price book add all the parts in one go, with your cost and margin kept off the customer’s copy. When the customer accepts and signs, the card moves to Booked by itself under the starter board’s rules. See software for electricians. Rules checked 30 October 2026 against ato.gov.au, business.gov.au, ACCC and state regulator guidance. General information only, not tax or legal advice. Ask your accountant, BAS agent or state regulator about your own situation.

Questions

Should I list every circuit breaker on the quote?

List what the customer is choosing and paying for. Group small parts into a kit line if you like, but keep major items, such as the switchboard or charger, on their own lines.

Can I charge more than the quote if the network requires extra work?

Only if the customer agrees first. Say on the quote that network-required upgrades are excluded, then send a revised quote if one comes up.

How long should an electrical quote be valid?

No law sets a period. Choose one that suits your material prices and print the date; without one you may have to honour an old price.
